When I learned Megan + Scott were having a baaaaaby (EEE!) I got so excited — following life from your engagement, to wedding, to building your family with animals and/or babies is my favorite process.
Together with their pups and Megan’s mom for a little help, we spent a slow afternoon together in K’s nursery, which was so intentionally designed with beautiful accents and family heirlooms (peep Megan’s baby bonnet on the mirror!) and I’m so excited to share them with you all. In-home newborn sessions are so incredible because you get to be in your space, as cozy or styled as you want to be, and capture those small (and huge) bonds in the space you spend your day to days making those earliest memories.
Want an in-home vibe but envisioning a redesign you don’t have time or money or energy for before or after babe? Don’t stress — thankfully Cleveland and the surrounding areas has an incredible wealth of lifestyle, in-home designed studios with all the features of home, but with someone else picking up the mess ;).
Want to get your own in-home session in the books? Hop on over to my scheduling calendar and request an available date and I’ll get in touch for planning and booking!
A huge thank you to the newest parents on the block for being just as excited and for letting me share this session with all of you as I start photographing more family and newborn sessions — not just for my clients, as it has previously been almost exclusively, but for the Cleveland and Northeast Ohio community as a whole.
Megan & Scott: I love you both to piecess! Thanks for letting me meet your newest girly and letting me witness you two becoming the best parents ever. So grateful to get to watch her grow up!
K’s got the best big siblings who are already on the case, protecting their girl.
SESSIONS WITH PETS INSIGHT: In-home sessions are sweet and intimate and incredible, but remember, this is all a lot and new for your pups (and kitties) too! Boone & Harper are super in love and protective of their new little sissy, and while Boone was pretty chill, Harper stayed on alert and didn’t want me moving too fast. She let me know, was perfectly sweet, but was just vocal about her suspicions!
This is perfectly normal and okay!
I make sure to get down on their level, sit my camera aside, let them smell it, lick it (don’t worry, it’s tough, it’ll survive!) and give them patience as they let me into their space. They are expanding their crew in the sense of security and our best aim is to make them feel cozy, comfortable, and confident.
I’ve had big dogs my whole life so I’m very comfortable around just about every pet you can think of — and I’ll always help guide you and listen to what they are telling me with their bodies (and sometimes their proud voices!) and remind you to never apologize. Pups have feelings too!
If we get them hanging out real close, awesome, if not, that’s okay too! We can try a few things, photograph from outside of the room with me giving them their space, or if they warm up I’ll get closer.
Just remember: Go in with little expectations, lots of treats and positive reinforcement, hang out as a fam, and I’ll do the rest. This day is about relaxing and being a family.
Boone just wanted snuggles all day and I was so here for it. We love you too, Harper girl!
If ever there was a picture of what a “girl dad” was, this is it — Scott, you’re meant for this part, bud.
Now, if only everything we do ends with us bundled up asleep in someone’s arms while our furry brothers enjoy their chewy snacks as a reward, am I right? Baby K sure has the best village and it was great to see Megan’s mama for the first time since the wedding, now settling into being a grandma.
